Customs has successfully intercepted 13grams of marijuana found in the possession of a passenger arriving at Faleolo International Airport in the early hours of 21 February, 2025.
Effective profiling and targeting by Customs officers led to the detection of the illicit substance concealed within the passenger’s belongings. The passenger was immediately detained, and the matter has been referred to the Ministry of Police Prison and Corrections Service for further investigation.
Chief Executive Officer Fonoti Talaitupu Li’a-Tafeu, commended the vigilance of frontline Customs officers in preventing the illicit drug from entering Samoa and encourages the public to refrain from attempting to smuggle illicit drugs into the country. “We remain steadfast in our efforts to detect and deter such illegal activities through enhanced profiling and targeting, screening measures and collaboration with our local and regional enforcement agencies.”
